Organ Crawl to Lake George and Glens Falls
Saturday, April 29, 2023
Host: Bryan Kirk
On Saturday, April 29, 2023, 15 members, friends and family made their way up the Adirondack Northway, in the rain, to Lake George, NY and St. James Episcopal Church. St. James houses a 1911 E.M. Skinner, 2 manual 11 rank, organ still in its original format. Several of the members of St. James also joined us. Bryan Kirk, met us there and gave a brief history of the organ and church, followed by a demonstration of the organ. After several members tried the organ. A delicious luncheon was served to us by the ladies of St. James Episcopal Church. After lunch and some fellowship time, we motored our way down Route 9 to First Presbyterian Church, Glens Falls, NY, which has one of the 100 largest organs in the US. A Reuter 4 manual, 70 rank Chancel organ and a Casavant, 3 manual 60 rank Gallery organ. Both organs, all 130 ranks are playable from the Chancel organ. Again, Bryan Kirk gave us a brief history of the organs and church and then a demonstration of this magnificent organ. He also gave tours of various parts of both organs. Several members tried the organ playing some of their favorite music. Special thanks to Bryan Kirk for arranging and making this possible and to the Ladies of St. James for a delicious luncheon.
